Las Vegas Supernationals: RIO Hotel and Casino
On
October 31, and September 1-2, David Jurca participated in the biggest
karting event of the year in North America. All of the best drivers
from around the country were there to contest for the Supernationals
crown. Jurca would be pulling double duty that weekend, driving
in both the SuperPro class, and the Formula IC class.
In the SuperPro class, Jurca qualified 8th out of a 45 kart SuperPro
field, having been stuck behind lap traffic when his tires were
at their best. In the prefinal, Jurca improved his position to 5th
place. For the final, Jurca battled non stop with his fellow SuperPro
drivers until the final lap, where he would make an exciting last
lap move on Darren Elliot to take fourth place.
Perhaps one of the most anticipated events of Sunday was the TM
Racing USA Formula IC Main event. The SuperNationals would be the
first time that all of the top drivers from around the country would
go head to head in the new for '02 class. In qualifying, Jurca would
go out and set pole on his first run, only to be knocked down to
third by teammates Vorrath and Valiante. Jurca would go out onto
the track fo one more try. He managed to get one clear lap and put
together a time fast enough for pole position. The order went like
this: Jurca, Valiante, Vorrath. A perfect qualifying for Italian
Motors. Jurca won the prefinal and was ready to start on the front
row with teammate Valiante for the final. Vorrath, unfortunately,
broke an engine mount clamp and did not finish the prefnal. It was
a textbook start for both Jurca and Valiante, as they were one and
two by the first corner. They traded positions several times, but
in the end it was Jurca who came out on top along with the fastest
lap of the race. Go Racing Magazine had this to say about the Formula
IC race: "Up front the stakes were high. Jurca was on a mission,
but one false move by Jurca or Valiante could cost the team dearly.
Just when you thought they couldn't drive any deeper, they did.
When you thought they were going to hit, they didn't. It was a great
display of skill and determination by both drivers. This race was
the best of the weekend. After watching the teammates of Valiante
and Jurca go toe-to-to with Martin waiting to pounce, this is what
125 racing should be like everyday."
Jurca was very happy about his successful weekend at the Supernationals.
After the ceremonies, he commented: "This has been a fantastic
weekend. We finished well in SuperPro and to top it all off, we
finished first and second in Formula IC as well as qualifying 1-2-3.
The Italian Motors team has been phenomenal this weekend and I really
have to thank my mechanic Dave Carpentier for his hard work. It
wasn't easy doing two classes at a race this big. I also would like
to thank Lynx
Racing for bringing in their Toyota
Atlantic transporter and buliding such a fantastic pit setup for
the ITALKART Factory Team. Thanks to my sponsors Best Ceramic, European
Tile Inc., Italian
Motors, ITALKART,
Kuzzins Kustoms, Bell
Helmets, MyChron,
Serengeti Design, and Jim Mason because without them I would not
be where I am today."
