On
August 8-11, David Jurca drove to Calgary, Alberta with his Italian
Motors team to participate in the 2002 Canadian National Championships.
The team arrived a day later than the rest, but was quickly up to
speed in practice with David Jurca and Jordy Vorrath putting in
some of the fastest times in ICC shifter and were near the top of
the time charts in ICA.
ICA was one of the largest classes of the weekend with 36 karts.
In qualifying, Jurca encountered traffic which put him further back
than he would have liked. Jurca said, "the kart has been great
and I really enjoy the track, I just couldn't get a clear lap. I
know we were fast enough for the pole and now I will just have to
pace myself for the 25 lap final." In the prefinal, Jurca was
up to third before a problem with the engine sent him to the back
of the field. For the final, David had his work cut out for him.
He started charging through the field but it just wasn't meant to
be. An unavoidable four kart pile up right in front of him ended
all chances of finishing on the podium.
The Italian Motors Team did an outstanding job in ICC, grabbing
the top two spots in the competitive 45 kart field. Italian Motors'
Jordy Vorrath laid down a time of 45.613 and close behind was his
teammate David Jurca at a 45.683, nearly 4 tenths ahead of 3rd place.
In the prefinal, Jurca finished third, a solid starting position
for the final. The Italian Motors duo of Jurca and Vorrath had a
great start to the final. Unfortunately, Jurca had a tire go flat
around the second lap of the race and had to do all he could to
keep his kart on the track. Amazingly, he would finish in the sixth
position after fighting hard to keep ahead of his fellow competitors.
When asked about his misfortunes at the Canadian Nationals, Jurca
had this to say: "It has been a character building weekend,
however we have learn't a lot and Jordy and I are looking forward
to sharing that information with our customers at the next event.
I am happy for Jordy as he was able to win the Canadian Nationals
and prove that our ITALKART/TM combination is one of the fastest
out there. Jurca would also like to thank his sponsors Best
Ceramic, European Tile Inc., Italian
Motors, ITALKART,
Kuzzins Kustoms, Bell
Helmets, MyChron,
Serengeti Design, and Jim Mason.
