Italian Motors driver David Jurca (Italkart/Italian Motors TM) took
advantage of a late race tussle between Gian Cavaciuti and Bobby
Wilson to take his second win of the 2003 ProMoto season at Texas
Motor Speedway in the most competitive headline 42 kart ICC field.
David qualified 12th in the rain, unable to get the kart setup to
his liking. In the prefinal, Jurca stormed to the front from his
12th place starting position to finish second and only .058 seconds
from first. In the final, David got a great start and immediately
jumped to first. On lap six, his gas tank screw fell out leaving
him to hold the gas tank in with his leg. Jurca hung on to the lead
until the 22 lap where he encountered lap traffic and was pushed
off the track forcing him to third. David immediately charged back
and resumed the battle for the lead. Wilson now was in the lead
with Cavaciuti second and Jurca third. With only few laps remaining,
Cavaciuti made contact with Wilson in a passing attempt and left
the track. Jurca went into the lead while Wilson recovered in second,
and Wade VanHooser (Intrepid/Italian Motors TM) got the final podium
spot.
David Jurca now leads the SKUSA Championship and he is looking forward
to the next round which is in Portland, Oregon. The Italian Motors/Italkart
Team has won an event at each round of the SKUSA ProMoto Tour this
season.
