Alex Backus Wins Pignataro Volkswagen Indoor Karting Event
July 3, 2008
Everett, Washington. – It’s been a good month for Alex
Backus. After having just purchased a brand new Volkswagen Rabbit
from Pignataro Volkswagen, he became eligible for the Pignataro
Volkswagen Indoor Karting Event, an event that he ended up winning.
Pignataro Volkswagen of Everett, Washington teamed up with Volkswagen
Jetta TDI Cup points leader David Jurca, racing in the first clean
diesel race series, to create a fun and exciting event for its customers.
The event was held at the K1 Speed indoor karting center in Redmond,
Washington on July 2nd at 7pm.
A series of qualifying races set the grid for the final race between
the top eight drivers. The competition was surprisingly close as
the top eight Pignataro Volkswagen customers were within 6 tenths
of a second of each other. Starting on pole was Alex Backus followed
by Oliver Breakwell and Anton Loenov. After a standing start, the
first few laps were frantic. Second place Oliver Breakwell spun
early collecting a few drivers with him. This gave Alex Backus a
bit of a gap over second, and one that he would keep until the finish.
As things settled down, Levon Bagdasaryan and Alexander Sagiyan
found themselves in second and third. Fighting his way back up through
the field, Oliver Breakwell made it back up to second by the end
of the race while another driver on the move, Andrew Gary, made
multiple passes to get into the top three.
As the checkered flag fell, it was Alex Backus with a perfect race
from the pole position to take the win and the grand prize trip
for two to Portland for the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup race on July
26-27th. Highlights of that package include two tickets to the race,
two VIP passes to the Volkswagen Hospitality tent, a gas card, one
night hotel in Portland, and dinner for two in Portland. Second
place was Oliver Breakwell who chose the $100 worth of free ding
and dent removal courtesy of Dent Wizard and third was Andrew Gary
who received a $200 complete car detail courtesy of Pignataro Volkswagen.
“I’m really excited to have won this event,”
said Alex Backus. “The race was so much fun and I can’t
wait to go to Portland and watch the VW Jetta TDI Cup. It’s
going to be great! I just want to thank Pignataro Volkswagen for
putting up such an exciting and unique event for its customers.”
