Racing
is in the blood of the Jurca family. Long before David Jurca was born,
Miroslav, his grandfather, was racing cars. Miroslav built a racecar
with an aluminum body and a BMW Boxter engine and raced it all across
the Czech Republic. He was a very accomplished racer in the 1950’s
but was forced to quit early by the Communist Government.
David’s father Peter can still recall
the days when he watched his own father race. Even though he was only
five years old, he distinctly remembers sitting in his father’s
racecar while the mechanics would push him around the pits. Throughout
his life, Peter always dreamed of racing, but due to the political state
of the Czech Republic, he never received his chance. Instead, he would
devote his time and energy to his son's racing career.
David Jurca was born less than one year after
his family escaped the Czech Republic on April 24, 1985 in Amstetten,
Austria. Two months later, David and his family flew to Seattle, Washington
to begin a new life. At the young age of four, David was already an
avid Formula One fan. At five, David was going to the local kart track
to watch the racing action. David started karting as soon as he turned
eight in April of 1993. He now has more than twelve years of karting
under his belt.
Hard work, dedication, and focus are what
have kept David going all of these years. He continually works on his
karts to prepare them for every race. During the winter, David practices
in his kart as much as possible. He goes to the gym at least three times
a week to stay in shape for the tough demands of the sport. Furthermore,
David has always done well in school. In the summer of 2003, David graduated
high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.94 and was ranked 10th out of
553 students in his grade. That's pretty amazing considering the amount
of school David missed due to his racing. Currently, David is working
towards an AA degree and is enrolled in online classes at Highline Community
College. He plans on transfering to the University of Washington at
the completion of his AA.
Ultimately, David’s goal is to become
a professional racecar driver. He has the desire to make it and claims
that he will take hold of any chance he gets to progress in his racing
career.
